Living in Placentia

Placentia is a story like no other

Often described as one of the most beautiful places in Newfoundland and Labrador, Placentia possesses a lush historical and cultural tapestry stretching back to the early 16th century. Back then explorers, fishermen and settlers discovered a place rich in opportunity and ideally situated to make the most of it. Today, Placentia offers you and your family that and so much more. We have harnessed the best of our past and are forging an even better future: a happier, safer and richer way to live. Opportunity abounds around us. And like those early settlers, there is land aplenty to set down roots and begin a new story: your story.

Placentia has been planning for the future and you are invited to be part of it. Plan to visit us and drop by our town office where our town staff would be delighted to take you on a personal tour and provide information first hand on what Placentia offers you and your family.

It won’t take long for you to see the possibilities, to start dreaming of what life would be like in this idyllic place. We think it would go something like this:

You are just arriving back from a short trip to St. John’s. As you enter the town and wind through the roads wrapped around a breathtaking ocean, you roll down the windows to smell the fresh sea air. You are home. The kids welcome you at the door and excitedly tell you it is picnic day on the beach. Sandwiches are already packed and the car door closes. In a few seconds you arrive at the boardwalk. The sound of seagulls in the distance echo off the cliffs and surf back over the water as the waves crash and tumble the rocks to a fine polish. Your family already has a head start on the boardwalk as you take a second to reflect. It is a great day to be alive.

Back at home, the kid’s cheeks are full of colour from an afternoon at Castle Hill walking the trails and playing hide and seek. You have to run a few errands which won’t take long given the grocery store is just down the road – conveniently next to the gas station where you refuel caffeine and gasoline. You pass your neighbours coming from the furniture store and have good chuckle over Jim’s incessant claim that the fish he lost last week was indeed bigger than his boat. Back home you relax on the patio overlooking the bay. A few minutes later, the sitter arrives and you meet up with friends for a fine dining experience at one of the local restaurants before heading out to the culture centre for the summer fest concert series that has been receiving rave reviews.

As your head hits the pillow, the sense of peace and contentment brings a smile to your face. Church and seadooing in the harbour with friends are in the plans for tomorrow before heading back to the nearby worksite on Monday.

This can be your typical day in Placentia: a place where you and your family can experience a quality and pace of life as it was meant to be. That is the real story of Placentia. Come and add your story to ours.
