A Time in the Old Hall: Songs and Recitations of the Season
Featuring Sherman Downey and From Stage to Stage
Expanding from the LSPU Hall to stages in Carbonear and Placentia
The Christmas variety concert has long been a highly anticipated event on the social calendar of Newfoundland communities both large and small. For generations, folks of all ages have assembled to take the stage to sing of the season or “say their piece”. In this great tradition, one of our finest songwriters comes together with the group that has helped keep the Newfoundland recitation a part of our lives. Sherman Downey along with From Stage to Stage's Dave Paddon, Harry Ingram, Dave Penny and Hubert Furey will bring a full repertoire of seasonal material to three stages in Newfoundland.
December 9th, 8pm, at Freshwater United Church Community Centre, Carbonear
December 11th, 8pm, at the Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre, Placentia
December 19th, 8pm, at the LSPU Hall, St. John's
After two successful seasons partnering with Matthew Byrne, From Stage to Stage are excited to have renowned Corner Brook based singer/songwriter Sherman Downey on board for the 2016 show. "The recitation is alive and well with the boys of 'From Stage to Stage' " says Downey, "and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of A Time In The Old Hall this year. It's sure to be a memorable night"
For the first time the show will be reaching new audiences by adding 2 shows outside of St. John's: December 9th in Carbonear and Dec 11th in Placentia.
Celebrating the Release of A New Album of Holiday Recitations
For the last several years, the members of From Stage to Stage, both collectively and as individuals, have helped maintain the Newfoundland recitation as one of our most cherished traditions. This year's "A Time In The Old Hall" will mark the release of their new Christmas album "A Very Blasty Christmas" which sees the members bring their individual charms to a collection of original holiday recitations. The Album arrives in stores later this month.
Laughter will ring, heart strings will be tugged, and the season will be celebrated in fine Newfoundland style.
